"People join for the vision, but leave due to poor leadership." As a technology leader, I have seen it play out time and again.

A compelling vision is a magnet. It attracts top talent, ignites passion, and paints a picture of a future people want to be part of. It is why many of us leap into new opportunities.

But vision alone isn't enough. Poor leadership can quickly turn a dream job into a nightmare. Lack of support, micromanagement, and broken promises erode even the most enthusiastic person's resolve.

The often-missed components

Empathy: truly understanding and valuing your team's perspectives creates an environment where people want to stay and grow.

Trust: built through consistent actions and transparent communication. When leaders follow through and support their team's growth, good things happen:

  • Higher employee satisfaction
  • Increased productivity
  • Better retention
  • More innovation
