My first job, at AT&T Solutions, drilled two numbers into me that I still measure everything by.
- Contact rate: the time a seller actually spends in front of clients.
- Conversion rate: how many of those meetings turn into a next call or a close.
The trade-off nobody should have to make
Here is the tension. Preparation and responsiveness drive conversion. But done manually, they eat contact rate. So sellers face a bad trade: prepare deeply and see fewer clients, or see more clients and wing it.
That is why one number from Salesforce's State of Sales 2026 hits home: sellers spend about 25% of their hours actually selling. One day in four. The rest goes to admin and reporting.
We keep coaching reps to convert better. The math says the bigger lever is giving them the other three days back, and nine in ten sellers are now betting on AI agents to do exactly that.
The win isn't a smarter pitch. It's more time to pitch at all.
If your best rep got three days back a week, what would they do with them?
